GALLICISMS IN ROMANIAN AND CATALAN: PRELIMINARY CONCLUSIONS AND HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT

Abstract

This article is a part of the project A cartography of lexical loanwords from French in European Romance languages and proposes an analysis of a partial corpus of French loanwords in Romanian and Catalan. The study is based on criteria such as first attestation, borrowed meanings and internally developed meanings, and it also highlights the distinctive features of the cultural and historical background for both Romanian and Catalan.
