Abstract

Our study aims to analyse the narrative discourse in Panic Syndrome in the City of Lights both from the perspective of the cultural and mental shaping exerted by Matei Vișniec’s exposure to the context of French culture, and, from the perspective of the sociocultural implications of the influence of Molière’s language on the Romanian idiom with a view to the polysystem theory, employing a bilingual comparative method. Also, the study traces the influence of the French language at the diatopic, diastratic and diaphasic levels, the analysis of the novel highlighting particularities such as the use of syntactic constructions, with specific phrasing, the presence of refined stylistic registers and expressions born from the interference of the mother tongue with the adopted language.
